Company History

How We Became Established

Our Story

James Minter and Willard Ingram started J.L. Minter Electrical Contractor, Inc. in 1963. The company was initially named Minter-Ingram Electrical Contractors and catered to mostly residential construction.

In 1976 the two men parted ways and the company became J.L. Minter Electrical Contractor. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s the company focused more on the commercial service sector of the industry. Throughout the 1990’s the company continued to focus on service and new commercial work.

In the 2000’s we began to focus on design-build with “in-house” AutoCAD capabilities to reduce project cycle time and costs.

In 2007 James fully retired and Roger has led the company with continued steady growth.

In 2020, we built a new office/warehouse in Midlothian, VA. It is strategically located near the intersection of Route 60 and 288.

We are fortunate to have a very experienced management team.

  • Roger Minter, President has been employed with the company since 1980.
  • Bill Buckley, Vice President has been employed with the company since 1975.
  • Neal Tucker, Estimator/Project Manager, has been employed with the company since 2012. He has 23+ years in the trade.
  • Jay Edwards, Estimator/Project Manager, has been employed with the company since 2019. He has 42+ years in the trade.

We are proud of the level of trust our customers have placed in us in the past and look forward to serving each into the 21st century.
